I photographed Melissa’s sister Samantha’s wedding 4 years ago, but when Melissa emailed me, she didn’t say that. Maybe I should have recognized the last name, but over 3 years had passed and it’s not a super unique last name. I set up a meeting with her and Jeff, and as we sat & discussed their wedding, Melissa still didn’t mention that we’d met before. I never realized the connection until I was driving down the street to her parents’ house. I had sudden deja vu – I knew I’d been on that street before. When I pulled into the driveway and saw the covered classic car in the driveway, I realized why I’d been there before. I knocked on the door and was greeted by Melissa’s mom Jodi, and welcomed into their house for the second time. Sam was in the kitchen with her daughter and we hugged and I said I couldn’t believe I hadn’t realized til that moment. She laughed and said that seemed like Melissa, that she just wouldn’t think it was important to mention it. How funny.
Melissa & her girls all got ready at her parents’ house before we left to drive over to Samuel’s Grande Manor in Williamsville.
Melissa’s tattoo is in honor of her brother Matt, who just finished a round of treatment for Leukemia.
When I arrived at Samuel’s, Jeff & the guys were already out back, and I was able to get some photos with them before guests began to arrive. I hadn’t photographed a ceremony at Samuel’s since Samantha & Justin’s, and the ceremony gazebo is completely different now!
The ceremony was short & sweet. Afterwards, we gathered together to blast through the remaining portraits!
The flower girl like literally couldn’t even.
Their cocktail hour & dinner was in the center room at Samuel’s, and the uplighting was really pretty! The buffet line had a little something for everyone, and after dinner they not only served wedding cake but also had a late-night donut bar featuring a selection of Paula’s Donuts with take-home bags!
The dancefloor had some pretty funny moments so I just kept circling and keeping my eyes open for the best moments! Sam showed me this picture (marked 2013) from her wedding and said she & her siblings wanted to somewhat re-create it. Very cool moment!
Jeff & Melissa – congratulations! Not that it would have made any difference really if you’d told me you were Sam’s sister, but I just wish I’d known! It was great to work with your family again, and meet your family Jeff. Congratulations on having such a fun & relaxed wedding!!
