Wendy Mitchell Photography | Buffalo Wedding Photography bio picture

Happy you're here!

This site is a collection all all the work (and some personal photography) I've done since January 2009.  Go back through the archives, sort by category, however you'd like to browse.  Stay a while!

A little about me: I grew up in "The Southern Tier" of Western NY, graduated from Falconer High School in 1999, Jamestown Community College (AA in Media Arts) in 2001, and Rochester Institute of Technology (BFA in Professional Photographic Illustration) in 2004.  I have been photographing weddings full-time in the Buffalo area as Wendy Mitchell Photography since January 2005, and it's my most favorite thing to do!  I live in Alden, NY (about 30 min. east of downtown Buffalo) with my husband and our 4-year-old son.

I'm glad you found your way to my site.  Please enjoy looking through my photos, and if you'd like to talk to me about scheduling a wedding or other shoot, please contact me using the link above!

Baby Scott – 11 days old!

After being born a whopping 9 days overdue, I finally got to photograph Baby Scott this afternoon. He is the first son of a couple whose wedding I photographed in May 2008, who also happened to become our next door neighbors later that summer! What a wonderful world.

Michael & Elizabeth – August 8, 2009

On Saturday afternoon I met Mike & Beth. I’m always a little nervous going into a wedding where I’ve never actually met the bride and groom, but everyone was very welcoming and both families had a great time. It was the first wedding for both sets of parents and Mike & Beth set the bar high for their younger siblings!

I arrived at Beth’s parents’ house just as their dog, Cookie, was being brought back home after running away into the street to eat a dead squirrel. As far as I could see, that was really the only thing that went wrong all day!!

She wasn’t the only cookie around… Beth’s mom made sure everyone had sufficient snacks!

I also took the opportunity to take a picture of Beth’s shoes, which I thought were really pretty in a simple way.

The ceremony took place at St. Benedict’s and the girl who sang “Ave Maria” was wonderful!

After the service, it was a race against the weather to get pictures at the church and at Glen Falls before the rain started, but everyone was organized and cooperative and we got a lot of great shots!

We went over to Marinaccio’s for the reception and the party started. Mike’s brother George has a band that played the music and they are great! I’m sorry that I didn’t get the name or I’d give you guys a plug because you were fantastic!

Thanks to both families for all your hospitality, and have a great time in Mexico you two!!

Justin & Renée – August 7, 2009

I first “met” Renée on the phone last May, and I was struck by her consistent references to family. She told me that she really wanted her wedding to be a wonderful, fun occasion that put family first. We met in person this May and I knew that our styles really matched up – little bit of formality, but mostly just fun, candid, details, etc. She told me that there would be a ton of personal touches and I was not let down… for starters, the flowers were all amazing! Definitely high in my “Top 5″ wedding flower schemes ever. She included a photo of her late father in her bouquet, which made it all the more beautiful.

I met her and her mom & bridesmaids at her family’s house up in Olcott Beach. Everyone seemed to feel comfortable with me right away and let me get a lot of great candid shots!

When we got to the Beaver Island Clubhouse I was greeted by wonderful colors – I love the blue & green, and the ribbon on the cake that matched the invitations!!

The ceremony was awesome. Very personal, beautiful singing, a few tears, and it ended with a corncob trophy. That’s right.

Formals! LOL at the kids. I did make a genuine attempt at a more “posey” photo of the three of them, but this was a much more accurate representation!

And finally, dancing!! Check out the pastor getting in on the butt-bumping action. Of course there are a ton more I could include, but I can’t upload them all!

Have fun in Hawaii and I’m really looking forward to putting your album together!

Mr. Aiden is finally here!

After receiving an eviction notice at 8 days overdue, Aiden finally arrived on Thursday! I got to photograph him on Wednesday afternoon, making him the youngest newborn I’ve ever worked with. He was in an excellent mood, but extremely awake. It took quite a bit of nursing and cuddling to get him to sleep! I was there for four hours, but thankfully Tom & Amanda are excellent company. Congratulations you guys!

I am thrilled to be able to document another life event for you guys, and I’ll be happy to be there for all of those yet to come!

What a beautiful family!

I was contacted by Jen to do a family photo while she and her siblings and their families were all in the area. I was a little nervous about taking on a group of this size right in the middle of my busy wedding season, but the shoot went great and everyone was very well-behaved! Thanks guys!

I’m glad the Japanese Gardens exist to be such a perfect setting for a session like this! I’m happy the weather was gorgeous and this worked out great!
